What's in a Wikk candle?

You may have noticed that Wikk Candles are soy wax, phthalate free and use organic cotton wicks. What does that mean and why is it important?

Phthalates are chemicals used to soften PVC plastic and also as solvents in  consumer products. Test have shown that they can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system. Not great, right? So if we can avoid burning a known harmful chemical in our homes, we probably should.

Soy is a great alternative from typical paraffin wax. Paraffin wax when burned creates toxic chemicals like benzene and toluene. It is a petroleum product, so you could liken it to diesel fumes. Soy burns much cleaner as well. The absence of  toxins, carcinogens or pollutants which means it's less likely to trigger allergies. No carbon soot which means cleaner air, cleaner walls and ceilings. Also, fun fact: soy wax burns cooler which means that you can enjoy your Wikk Candle for generally 30-50% longer than a traditional paraffin candle.

A lot of traditional wicks have a metal/lead core which leads to airborne heavy metals. Ours are organic cotton with no metal core.

So many people love burning candles, happy we can do a small part in making them safer for your home.
